Entry Requirements
GradDipArts by Research
Applicants for the GradDipArts by Research would normally have one of the following:
- BA (Pass), preferably with a major in the area of study, and a good academic record (Distinction or high Credit level); OR
- MA (Pass) in the area of study
MA by Research
Applicants for the MA by Research would normally have one of the following:
- BA (Hons) with at least 2nd class Honours written in English from a recognised university; OR
- MA (Pass) at UNSW with a Special Project at Distinction level; OR
- Graduate Certificate at an average of Distinction from UNSW or a qualification considered equivalent from another tertiary institution; OR
- At least two years professional experience acceptable to the Faculty and the School AND have been awarded an appropriate program of Bachelor from UNSW or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution, OR
- In exceptional cases an applicant who submits evidence of such other academic and professional qualifications as may be approved by the Faculty
PhD
Applicants for the PhD would normally have one of the following:
- BA with first class Honours; OR
- MA (Hons) by thesis; OR
- GradDipArts by Research in the area of study chosen, usually with a result equivalent to first class Honours; OR
- In certain circumstances, an MA (Pass) from UNSW; OR
- In exceptional cases an applicant who submits evidence of such other academic and professional qualifications as may be approved by the Faculty
How to Apply
Before applying for admission, applicants should check whether the research interest of particular staff in the School of International Studies clearly coincides with his/her own research topic or proposed area of research. A research student can only be accepted if a member of staff is available to act as a supervisor, and an additional member of staff is also available who can act as a co-supervisor should the supervisor be away from the University for a period of time. Applications for all research programs generally close at the end of November for entry in Semester 1 of the following year and end of May for entry in Semester 2.
